Welcome To the Gatekeeper Inn
The Gatekeeper is a traditional English pub offering a warm welcome and a cosy atmosphere, complemented by hand-selected beers and thoughtfully crafted, delicious food.
We are a privately ran freehouse, proudly located in the beautiful village of Etchinghill, and we see ourselves as a true community hub. Our aim is simple: everyone who walks through our doors should feel welcome and comfortable.
The building itself has a rich history. Originally constructed in 1595, during the 37th year of Queen Elizabeth I’s reign, it began life as two separate farm dwellings. Around the turn of the 18th century, it first started serving beer. Since then, the pub has changed hands and evolved over time—extended, altered, and restored—while always preserving its historic character and charm.
