The Gatekeeper is a traditional English style pub with a warm welcome
and cosy atmosphere topped off by hand selected beers and delicious
crafted food.

We are a family owned and run free-house situated in the lovely
Etchinghill and consider it a real community based hub. Our aim is
that everyone who steps through the door feels part of the family.

Originally the building was constructed as two separate farm dwellings.
In 1595, during the 37th year of Elizabeth I’s reign. Around the turn
of the eighteenth century it had its first dabble in beers and since
has changed hands, been added too, been taken away from, but always
maintained its rich historic feel.

  1. We have recently visited the Gatekeeper. The repainted exterior has given it the charm it deserves and the care given to the interior has enhanced its many period features. I and my husband chose the paella which was delicious and we were served by 2 very friendly young men (Freddie and Jeremy) with enthusiastic efficiency. In all a very enjoyable experience and one which we hope to repeat.

  2. What a place! You certainly “undersell” your talents!
Very welcoming staff. Excellent menu. Very reasonable prices and superb service. Thank you. We will certainly recommend to fellow HPB’ers.
Whilst there are many good pubs in the area, this is one of the nearest and certainly the best one to visit! Thanks
